Engine

Engine orientated work this weekend:

Air Filter Pipes to be removed

The "rubber" seal just pulled off.Didn't even need to loosen the screws..

Air Intake pipe removed..

Carb's removed
After this it seemed a good idea to drain the oil fromt he main sump and gearbox. I didnt manage to get any images as i had slightly oil hands.. anyway, what came out of both was suprising. Main sump, which id imagine to contain about 2 liters of oil, it had.... less than half a pint come out of nasty thick, jet black treacle. Ok this isnt that suprising, as on the exterior of the engine, there is some obvious evidence of oil leak, as it has been in  storage for 30+ years, id imagine most of this oil had leaked out. Fine.

What was not fine was the gearbox. Upon draining, the first thing to come out was about 2 pints of crystal clear water followed by about a liter of thick oil followed by some dark sludge.. Hmm, pretty sure a gearbox isn't meant to have water or sludge in it. However, as the water was very clean, i think it is recent collection of rain water, getting in through a leak hole perhaps. (again the gearbox had signs of oil leakage). Or at least i hope so, ill find out when i get it open...

Next, exhaust removal. this turned out the be very easy, almost to the point of no effort.

Pipes popped out of out manifold
Downpipes off -  bit rusty, but dented. but with a bit of love i think these will be restore-able. They could look nice in black, and not rusty or dented..
Fairly clean exhaust ports..

As is..

Finally, the frame came off.
As i was one person, and couldn't lift/drag the engine out at the required 35 degrees to clear the frame i just didn't have enough hands. i supported the engine securely on a variety of blocks and removed the frame off the engine rather than the other way around.
