It done! no wait, its not.....

When somethings go right, others go wrong...
My NOS gearbox arrived earlier last week. It loos pretty good on a first preliminary inspection (id expect so too!) the stamped id number, is actually only just before my old one, so i know it was at least made with in the same week of my old one, - therefore most likely it will fit exactly as the old one did. :) - as i have discovered, the K750, although similar to other models in many ways, (ie MT9/10/11, M72 etc) mine, sometimes had one or two components just that little bit different in some places...

I spend some evenings cleaning off all the Russian preserving grease smeared all over the our surfaces,  changing out the crappy old Russian gaskets and seals to nice thicker modern ones (from Germany),and checking the general state of the internals.

Its exceptionally clean and as new. Bearings looks to be in fantastic condition and every thing else functions well. (id expects so , its basically a brand new piece of kit..)

then i put it in..
Case stamping number

Gearbox In!

and connected up

made sure the cardan shaft fit exactly up to the correct place on the gearbox output

i may have sliglty knocked my gas tap a bit to far one way (on account of my hand slipping out from the gearbox and my shoulder knocking it..)
neadless to say it may have squished the rubber seal too far ans sprung a tiny tiny trickle leak.

so i fixed that and continued installing the reset of the gear box components (air filter bits, speedo cable, final drive hub)

every thing was going great! (aside from the minor annoyance of the gas tap  - but a rubber seal later, thats all sorted now)  EDIT:or so i thought, more on this in a later post.....a more permanent fool proof fix.

the most annoying thing happened next.

final drive in. all nicely linked up to the cardan shaft, brake linkage hooked up, then i went to do up the adjustment bolt, and noticed..
the  rear brake rod trunnion (pivot) had gone for a walk. It certainly was where it was supposed to be. Or anywhere else to be seen. It must have dropped out at some point while i was carrying it the 5 - 8 yards from the workshop.
bugger.

thats all i needed, Its the last piece that was preventing me from adding the back wheel and  doing the side car alignment.
(which would have meant i'd be finished doing this restoration!)

couldn't find that little pin anywhere. so i ordered some now ones from moto boxer - seemed to be one of the only sellers i could find that had them individually.

and now the wait begins..
