Wheely good stuff..

A mix of things going on this weekend, mostly painting and grinding, but some more components stripping/removal.

After discovery of a snapped off bolt head in the sidecar swing arm, this caused a bit of an issue for removing the swing arm. What made this worse is that it appears to have been that way for some time. This bolt head originally held on the swing arm pivot cover, which was there to prevent water etc getting to the pivot pin. With no cover for X amount of time, has lead to a fair amount of rusting on the pin and bolt remains. (the frame looks to still be good with just a small amount of surface rust where the paint has peeled....). Could be a bit tricky to get out..

With the application of bit of generous amount of WD40 and a bit of brute force, the pin came out, along with the crappy bolt remains it was attached/rusted to.

Ive ordered a new pin, as this one was clearly unusable (and got a bit mangled during removal). Amazingly, the other end of the pin, didn't have much rusting (probably why it came out easier than expected...), just filled with a lot of mud.

With the bike (i say 'bike', more like 'whats left..') supported on blocks (i haven't got a center stand..), i managed to get the rest of the sidecar frame off too. This actually came off quite easily, but the securing bolts need replacing as they were stripped in a few areas from general wear over the last 50 years or so..

whats left..

Now its the beginning of clean up for the sidecar frame that was removed .It was/is a bit of a task as the previous owner did a "one coat of paint covers all" type of job with some really thick nasty paint. It takes some time to grind it all off, but needs to be done. Didn't have time to finish it this weekend, so i painted up what I've got done so far to prevent any rusting on my nice cleaned metal...

On the side, I've turned to finishing the spare wheel rebuild. With the hub, internal components and spokes ready to go, all that's needed to do is finish preparing the rim..

Pretty much cleaned, just the spoke holes to look at, then ready for a nice new coat of paint.

Starting to think about/look at the side car bodywork now, and hoping it isn't covered in the same type of paint as the frame was....
