Its been a while

Needless to say it has been some time since my last post. Many things have occurred in this time. Some of which are suitably bike related to share on this page.

The first of which in involved the dodgy generator. With the short (previously described) being fixed. The gen was installed back in its rightful place.

Although not yet tested for voltage etc i moved on to the next element that required some work. Both brakes were finally properly fitted and adjusted. Once the clutch and brakes were in i immediately (after removing the sidecar) took it off down the road to see how it faired on a stretch longer than my garden
It was great.

Then i decided to go round the block

It revealed a bit of an issue. On opening up the throttle it seemed an area of the m72 style twist was a bit worn out and refused to allow the cable slide past properly. In addition, one of the cylinders decided it didn't need compression any more and therefore stopped producing any.  These things resulted in the need to pushing it all the way back (it wasnt far but still it was up hill..)

So the throttle was knackered. I remember seeing one on that internet for a good price.
Ordered.
and replaced. the throttle now works as desired. Nice and light, springing back into place, without that suicide throttle business many older throttle styles suffer from.

Now for the apparently somewhat lopsided engine, many things may have caused this. After a quite bit off investigation, the cause was exposed as a worn out exhaust valve (the valve seat looked to be fine). So i have now replaced the whole lot (both sides) with nice new ones just to be safe.. While i was in there i had another look that the tappets and decided they could do with a renewal also...
ordered and replaced.

I also was fed up with the 302 carbs (what a bunch of shite they are..)  they proved very problematic t balance tune and even create a consistent mixture..
In the search for a replacement i looked into the K65T, but they needed some converted kit to swap the bolt/studs to horizontal instead of vertical. Instead I replaced with some nice shiny factory new PZ28 which once installed (literally a direct swap out) and balanced run beautifully smoothly!

During this time i also had a few moments to think about the wiring side of things. Many things needed to be addressed here, as for now all there was, was a quick total loss rig set up only to make the engine run. Now, for something a bit more permenant. So i called in my dad, who is a wizard with all things electrical, and we got to work..
ill try to get some better pictures - its actually very hard to get a good image of wiring..
Main harness and earth point

battery connection (its a bit tidier now)
Headlamp spaghetti - all with proper connectors on the wire ends, and the crap ceramic fuse has been replaced with a modern blade one.

wired light assembly.

Some parts of the wiring were altered. Firstly the earth. Its generally a bad idea to rely on the frame to carry the earth, as one bad weld/joint or bolt can potentially disrupt conductivity, and can be a bugger to trouble shoot. To avoid this issue, wired earths were added to necessary components, and then all linked back to a common point, making any troubleshooting a bit easier.

Fuse was updated to a modern blade type one, so i can now obtain replacements at local garages if required.

Bulbs are still original (6v) ones, but there is a good supplier, so availability is not really an issue as long as i have a bunch of spares up my sleeve, (and i don't intend on doing a whole bunch of night riding..)
